Social Media as an Opportunity for Public Health Interventions: The #Metoo Movement as an Exemplar

ABSTRACT
Background: Social media have been used exponentially and globally, providing a means for billions of users to connect, interact, share opinions criticise, becoming one the main channels communication around world. One most popular free social networks is Twitter, with more than 100 million active per day worldwide. Purpose: The aim this study was analyse sample public conversations generated, using hashtag #MeToo, topic sexual abuse on Twitter. Methods: Using marketing software, use #MeToo analysed over period 60 days (14 September 2017 13 November 2017). Results: conversation mainly in English (79.3%), located United States (48.2% cases), but global repercussions. volume mentions far greater (97.7%), compared other hashtags related violence time, mostly Twitter (96.2%). Conclusions: These results suggest that it possible describe different groups media, their identify opportunities successful health interventions.
