ABSTRACT
This work describes macroscopic and microscopic findings of pleural mesothelioma in a 6-y.o., , male German shepherd dog with dyspnea weight loss for 20 days. The animal was admitted to the Veterinary Hospital Facultad de Veterinaria Udelar, collapsed died during consultation. body referred Pathology Unit post-mortem examination. necropsy revealed hemoperitoneum, hepatomegaly, abundant hemothorax, large irregular mass mediastinum extending throughout cavity, adhered parietal pleura rib cage; formed by multi-nodulations few millimeters diameter whitish coloration, friable consistency. In addition, hemopericardium, infiltration diaphragm, pericardium, epicardium observed. Histopathological examination cardiac tissue identified cuboidal polyhedral mesothelial cells, grouped arborizing structures discrete amount connective stroma. cells had clear cytoplasm vacuoles, intensely basophilic nuclei some them binucleated, prominent nucleolus, mitoses, marked anisokaryosis anisocytosis, diagnosing as papillary mesothelioma. confirmatory diagnosis carried out immunohistochemistry, showing positive immunolabeling vimentin pan-cytokeratin tumor cells.
