ABSTRACT
Tropical species of anguillid glass eels have recently been exploited to be a substitute for the commercially important Anguilla japonica or A. anguilla, so information about their life histories is needed facilitate conservation. To understand ecological aspects eel recruitment patterns tropical eels, spp., monthly monitoring compositions at mouth Cagayan River in northern Luzon Philippines was carried out different time periods from May 2008 September 2009 and November 2011 December 2012. Species identifications were made 32,178 using morphology and/or genetics, total five species, bicolor pacifica, celebesensis, japonica, luzonensis, marmorata, found. In both marmorata dominant followed by luzonensis but proportion decreased 55.1% 2008–2009 41.2% 2011–2012, with pacifica increasing 3.9% 26.3% staying relatively stable (41.0%, 32.5%). Two other that reported previous studies extremely rare. This study indicated selective catch preferred this area not feasible, because harvest will include high bycatch economically less-important potentially having considerable impacts on populations.
