ABSTRACT
A new species of Maytenus is described and illustrated. psammopliila apparently endemic to the state Bahia, where it grows in sandy soils dunes 'caatinga' physiognomy. This recognized by its cylindrical or slightly flattened young twigs with lenticels, small ovate coriaceous leaves inflorescences, reduced cymes short pedicellate flowers. It resembles M. rigida, which also occurs same area but differs from margins no thorns inflorescences (cymes vs. fascicles rigida). Neotypification boaria here proposed, this neotypification important because type genus Maytenus.
