ABSTRACT
Although pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is commonly used for asthmatics in many countries, so far there are no studies addressing the question of whether and how long an improvement asthma control (AC) seen after rehabilitation. The ProKAR study (Prospektive Katamnesestudie Asthma-Rehabilitation) was performed to provide data concerning short- long-term impact PR on AC.Two-hundred one adult patients with mild severe persistent were prospectively followed year completion a 3-week program. AC, primary outcome parameter, health-related quality life (HRQoL) monitored using Asthma Control Test (ACT) St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) at initiation (T0) end (T1) 3, 6 12 months thereafter. Pulmonary function, physical fitness (6MWD) asthmatic inflammation (FENO) measured T0 T1.The proportion well-controlled (ACT score ≥20) increased from 33.2% 67.3% still 51% months. Slight but statistically significant improvements functions increase 6MWD nearly 60 m reported T1. One discharge 55.8% showed clinically relevant least 4 points total SGRQ score. The multidisciplinary inpatient program resulted short AC HRQoL patients.
