“My Aim is True”: An Attribution-Identity Model of Ally Sincerity

ABSTRACT
Advantaged group allies have multiple motives for supporting equality, raising questions about their sincerity. We draw upon the covariation model of attributions (Kelley, 1973) to explain how disadvantaged members make whether advantaged “allies” are sincerely motivated empower group. propose an Attribution-Identity Model Sincerity (AIMS) which posits that view as sincere when they support equality in presence inhibitory and absence facilitative causes, exceed expectations group, provide across time contexts. Further, those who identify strongly with perceive intergroup inequality illegitimate most ascertain sincerity members’ allyship. AIMS suggests groups seek maximize benefits minimize risks
