First reproductive experience: a survey module

ABSTRACT
Experiencing reproductive difficulties such as infertility and miscarriage becomes more common withage can be a barrier to having children, especially if first births are delayed. This module on thefirst experience aims enhance our understanding of women’s men’s reproductiverealities today. Collecting survey items the enables researchers toidentify issues women men face, ways in which they respond or tackle thesechallenges including treatments, consequences for different aspects their lives,including mental health, relationship stability family size. It also allows chart theage at people start trying have child quantify incidence difficultyin settings. Finally, by asking about age time between events (trying, conceiving,giving birth), it is possible estimate success rates according person triedto conceive child, an important contribution human reproduction research we currentlylack data. Adding cross-sectional panel familysurveys that already contain basic information fertility will help integrate studies ofreproductive demographic fill gaps knowledge healthin countries with later fertility.
