ABSTRACT
Abstract Yttrium silicates are among the candidates for protection of silicon-based ceramics in high temperature and moist environments due to chemical mechanical compatibility with substrate, low volatility moisture resistance. Here we reported on development yttrium silicate coatings by sol precursor plasma spraying. The use a feedstock allowed easy composition flexibility. microstructure structure as-sprayed heat-treated were investigated. Finer was obtained compared micrometric powder spraying traditionally used produce environmental barrier (EBC). XRD analyses revealed amorphous or crystalline layers depending parameters. In EBC application, volume change from crystallization phase transformation envisaged be damaging induced stresses fully phases key durability requirement conventional characterized an important polymorphism ability form coatings. Therefore, special attention so paid degree
