ABSTRACT
The primary objective of this preliminary intervention study was to clarify the effect continuous intake onion outer skin powder granules (onion peel made into with edible excipients) on human intestinal microflora by molecular microbiological methods.Furthermore, second isolate bacterial strains that show characteristic growth successive cultivation in fecal medium supplemented powder, and obtain basic data such as their role quercetin metabolism.Although statistically significant results could not be expected due small number subjects, suggest tends improve physical condition stabilize frequency defecation. In addition, no problematic side effects abdominal symptoms were observed, suggesting safety product.Periodical quantitative PCR analysis for four most predominant anaerobic bacteria groups intestine showed each group tended decrease during first week intake, but rebounded after similar or higher than level before intake.Organic acid concentration subjects' fresh feces suggested grains may cause changes environment within a relatively short period time start intake. In vitro culture existence production SCFAs degradation quercetin, which metabolic patterns observed according subject's feces, only certain isolates found break down when incubated vitro.Further studies are needed what kind indigenous microorganisms responsible metabolism potential bioactive gut.
