ABSTRACT
Adenovirus infection of man is common and some adenoviruses have been implicated as causative factors cancer in animals. Some types adenovirus produce sufficiently mild infections, however, so that volunteer studies with these agents appear relatively simple risk free (1,2). The testing drugs on randomly occurring diseases difficult, since a definite clinical diagnosis may not be possible until the disease past. In addition, variability cases, except very large epidemics, would require numbers people tested any new drug which to evaluated order for such meaningful. Volunteer induced appeared safer more practical than study random cases method evaluation, type III, passed only human amnion cells, isolated from local seemed an ideal agent provide this test system. Two possess vitro activity against seem reasonably safe use man. Methislazone (N-methylisatin-B-thiosemicarbazone) proven value variety pox virus infections man, clearly preventing smallpox contacts probably providing therapeutic benefit treatment vaccinia gangrenosa (3-13). Recent tissue culture indicate it has effect suppressing multiplication (14), broad experience thousands subjects provides detailed information its safety toxicity (3-6). Trifluorothymidine (F3TdR) potent nontoxic antimetabolite experimental treatmcnt herpes simplex eye when administered locally drops (15,16). Since suppresses interferes DNA synthesis, class shown (14) topical administration trifluorothymidine also value.
