ABSTRACT
Management of game species may involve a risk alteration their genetic properties. Local adaptations be disrupted if artificially selected individuals from farms or those belonging to distant geographical areas are introduced increase population density trophy ‘quality’. In Spain, red deer (Cervus elaphus) different European subspecies have been the size trophies (antlers) local populations. Legislation against these introductions is not effective for various reasons, and once in Iberian peninsula it virtually impossible prevent spreading throughout whole territory without tool distinguish between autochthonous foreign specimens. We developed such test propose strategy dissuade land-owners importing deer. Since bred mainly antlers, our based on an agreement with National Trophy Body Spain which rejects Rejection decreases value so that becomes more profitable produce Using at some critical step production commercialisation process good model apply protecting properties exploited species.
