ABSTRACT
The present study aimed to determine the topical and systemic efficacy of tranexamic acid (TXA) on epidural fibrosis in a rat laminectomy model.Thirty-two 12-month-old adult Sprague-Dawley rats were used this study. Each underwent bilateral at L1 L2 vertebral levels. Rats divided into four groups : group I (control group, n=8), was performed saline solution applied surgical space. In II (topical 30 mg/ kg TXA site before skin closure. III (systemic mg/kg administered intravenously via tail vein same session as procedure. IV both intravenous. sacrificed 4 weeks postoperatively. Masson's trichrome hematoxylin eosin assess acute inflammatory cells, chronic vascular proliferation, fibrosis.Epidural fibrosis, inflammation, sum histologic score value significantly lower than control (p<0.05). addion, (p<0.05).In study, formation prevented more by application, but application found be effective when compared group. As result, we recommend use prevent during spinal surgery.
