ABSTRACT
Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL)-positive USA300 clone has been the most successful community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) spreading in North America. In contrast, PVL-negative ST72-CA-MRSA predominant Korea, and there no report of infections by strain except only one case perianal infection. Here, we describe first pneumonia caused following pandemic influenza A (H1N1) Korea. 50-year-old man was admitted with fever cough chest radiograph showed pneumonic consolidation at right lower lung zone. He received a ventilator support because respiratory failure. PCR for nasopharyngeal swab positive, culture sputum endotracheal aspirate grew MRSA. Typing isolate revealed that it PVL-positive, ST 8-MRSA-SCCmec type IV. The analysis PFGE patterns this same pulsotype as strain.
