ABSTRACT
An association between past history of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and pancreatic cancer (PC) has recently been reported. We investigated whether HBV C (HCV) infections are associated with the development PC in Korea. We retrospectively recruited patients sex- and, age-matched control stomach (SC) during previous 5 years. Serum HBsAg anti-HCV were examined, data on smoking, alcohol intake, diabetes, chronic pancreatitis (CP) collected.A total 506 1008 SC enrolled, respectively 58.1% 97.3% these cases being confirmed histologically. The mean age sex ratio (male:female) 63.5 years 1.5:1 63.9 (P>0.05). odds ratios (95% confidence interval, 95% CI) univariate analysis 0.90 (0.52-1.56; P=0.70) for HBsAg, 1.87 (0.87-4.01; P=0.11) anti-HCV, 2.66 (2.04-3.48; P<0.001) presence 2.30 (1.83-2.90; 1.14 (0.89-1.46; P=0.31) 4.40 (1.66-11.66; P=0.003) CP. Independent risk factors diabetes (OR, 2.67; CI, 2.00-3.56; P<0.001), smoking 2.49; 1.93-3.21; CP 4.60; 1.56-13.53; P=0.006).There was no significant seropositivity or PC. Further studies warranted to clarify regions where is endemic.
