ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION: Critical mission tasks for Martian exploration have been identified and include specific duties that astronauts will to perform despite any adverse effects of chronic microgravity. Specifically, may an emergency capsule egress upon return Earth, which places demands on compromised cardiovascular neuromuscular systems. Therefore, the purpose this project was determine relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness simulated time. METHODS: There were 15 subjects who volunteered study. Vo 2peak peak power output (PPO) determined cycle rowing ergometers. (CP) by a 3-min all-out test. Subjects then performed mock-up NASA’s Orion space capsule. Peak metabolic data compared cycling tests. Pearson’s correlation used identify relationships time , PPO, CP. RESULTS: Vco minute ventilation not different Cycling elicited greater PPO than Egress negatively correlated (r = −0.60), but or CONCLUSIONS: Rowing PPO/kg correlates with Although individuals higher able finish task in less time, low levels (Vo ≤ 20 ml · kg −1 min ) could complete within 2 mins. These results suggest should limit can be assessed using exercise. Alexander AM, Sutterfield SL, Kriss KN, Hammer SM, Didier KD, Cauldwell JT, Dzewaltowski AC, Barstow TJ, Ade CJ.
