ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is characterized by an uncomfortable sensation on the legs, which causes urge to move legs. The main cause unknown but there are many risk factors, including geographical properties and high altitude. Our objective was explore frequency of RLS in aircrew.METHODS: There were 301 Turkish aircrew who admitted Istanbul Medipol University Hospital Neurology Department for periodic examinations 272 healthy (non-aircrew) subjects included study. International Study Group's Questionnaire Group Rating Scale (IRLSSGRS) used evaluate RLS. participants filled questionnaire then both groups divided into two subgroups as having or not. years profession, average flight duration a month, daily sleep duration, smoking, coffee consumption recorded. None had previously been diagnosed with RLS.RESULTS: 6.7% group 7.9% control group, no significant difference between groups. Age, gender, sleep, consumption, family history RLS, being pilot attendant, monthly hours similar without RLS.DISCUSSION: that group.
