ABSTRACT
The so-called neurological paraneoplastic syndromes (NPNS) are a group of diseases the central nervous system unknown etiology which seen almost exclusively in patients with cancer. We review main NPNS paying particular attention to those ophthalmological and otological features.Certain neuro-ophthalmological findings may constitute, at least partly, some syndromes. There alterations vision retinopathy optic neuritis origin. latter, unlike retinopathy, usually coexists involvement other structures system. Oculomotor function is affected opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome. Diplopia and/or ophthalmoplegia be predominant or initial symptom, degeneration brainstem encephalitis. In Lambert-Eaton syndrome encephalomyelitis, have blurred pupil. Cases uveitis also been described. Paraneoplastic less frequent. Patients sensorineural deafness context encephalomyelitis reported. vertigo caused by cerebellar lesions not peripheral organs. When nystagmus occurs it various types due brain stem cerebellum.The diagnosis no known cancer important because lead detection an occult localized scarcely extended, therefore still potentially treatable.
