ABSTRACT
Non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) accounts for 25% of completed strokes (CS) a cardioembolic origin in patients over 60 years old. Our aim was to define the predictors good and poor prognosis after CS secondary an NVAF our milieu. We evaluated risk factors (RF) severity relation death, functionality recurrence at 5 years. 81 between ages 49 88 were followed up consecutively 1 90 months; 38 (46.9%) them males. Multivariate analysis performed with following independent variables: age, gender, smoking, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes mellitus characteristics stroke. The assessed by means modified Rankin scale, which dichotomised into (0-2) (> or = 3), both basal end clinical control. We also preventive treatment used its recurrence, prognosis, death complications. No RF linked recurrence; 88% had prognosis. Antiplatelet drugs 42% cases 39% received anticoagulants. A final progression observed 9.5% treated antiplatelet versus 35% those receiving anticoagulation therapy (p 0.004). Severity on admission worse aspirin group, no differences mortality. better from urban areas.Use drugs, living rural area score > 3 are suggesting control
