ABSTRACT
The aim of this article is to analyze Western and Asian cross-cultural trends in music on the example compositions by Razak Abdul Aziz (Abdul Razak) Maria Zaitun's opera. main idea opera explore aesthetic issues musical elements, as well redefine role modern composer multiracial society 21st century. As a Malaysian composer, particularly interested combining together various different practices order create composition contemporary techniques with his own personal style. obtained from few short novels Fatimah Busu titled "Perkembalian Seorang Zaitun," which was then transformed into an operatic work "Maria Opera," chamber for 8 singers 6 violins, 3 violas, cellos, 2 double-basses, harps, pianos, celesta, glockenspiel, vibraphone, xylophone, marimba set drums.
