ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to analyze visual representations redox reactions and related content in four Brazilian secondary school chemistry textbooks. aimed identify which were used evaluate how these linked one another the main text. Data analyzed regarding representational levels degree relatedness between different Further analysis focused on intended function images curriculum orientation they indicated. sample comprised 286 representations. results showed that most merely served a decorative not explicitly further understanding findings indicated textbooks prioritized two separate representation: macroscopic symbolic. Only few submicroscopic multilevel could be found. textbook illustrations strong "structure discipline" curriculum, illustrated with orientations taken from everyday life, technology, industry. It emphasizes importance using textbooks, because its influence construction concepts, particular concept reactions. Based research, it is possible for teachers observe limitation materials carefully select their curricula. Moreover, can contribute improving quality
