ABSTRACT
The Arctic Council working group, the Conservation of Flora and Fauna (CAFF) established Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Programme (CBMP), an international network scientists, governments, Indigenous organizations, conservation groups to harmonize integrate efforts extend develop monitoring assessment Arctic’s biodiversity. Its relevance stretches beyond a broad range regional global initiatives agreements. This paper describes process approach taken in last two decades implement CBMP. It documents challenges encountered, lessons learnt, solutions, considers how it has been model for national, regional, programmes; explores impacted biodiversity monitoring, assessment, policy concludes with observations on key issues next steps. following are overarching prerequisites identified implementation CBMP: effective coordination, sufficient sustained funding, improved standards protocols, co-production knowledge equitable involvement IK approaches, data management facilitating analysis comparisons, communication outreach raising awareness engagement programme, ensuring resources engage fora programme implementation.
