ABSTRACT
Therapy with intravenous glucocorticoids (GCs) is associated various side effects, however, the impact on bone remains elusive. Trabecular score (TBS) a diagnostic tool providing information microarchitecture based images obtained from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. We investigated influence of methylprednisolone (IVMP) pulse administration TBS in patients moderate-to-severe Graves' orbitopathy (GO).Fifteen GO were treated 12 IVMP pulses (6x0.5g, 6x0.25 g weekly schedule). They received supplementation 2000 IU vitamin D and 1.0 calcium throughout study period. was assessed at baseline after last pulse. To determine difference between values treatment least significant change (LSC) methodology used. compared pre- posttreatment mean values. We found decrease 5 out 15 (33%) patients. Mean value decreased becoming 2.4% lower than (p<0.05).IVMP therapy exerts negative effect assessment. The analysis clinical risk factors for osteoporosis evaluation mineral density should be considered before initiating therapy.
