ABSTRACT
The SLC39A8 gene encodes a divalent metal transporter, ZIP8. is associated with pleiotropic effects across multiple tissues, including the brain. We determine different brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) phenotypes SLC39A8. used phenome-wide association study approach followed by joint and conditional analysis. Using summary statistics datasets from MRI genome-wide on adult United Kingdom (UK) Biobank participants, we systematically selected all single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within 500 kb of genetic locus. For significant phenotypes, GCTA-COJO to number independent signals identify index SNPs for each phenotype. Linkage equilibrium was confirmed LDpair. identified 24 that vary due type region contain SNP Missense ZIP8 polymorphism rs13107325 22 phenotypes. Rare variants present in published UK dataset are 6 also linked rs13107325. Among datasets, an additional 4 were be linkage using These represent new probable causative addition This provides leads into how variation , trace mineral transport gene, structure differences may affect development nervous system function.
