ABSTRACT
The status of fishery resources in the Mediterranean Sea is critical: most fish and shellfish stocks are overexploitation only half them routinely assessed. This manuscript presents use Surplus Production Models (SPMs) as a valid option to increase number assessed stocks, with specific attention Adriatic basin. Particularly, stock European sprat ( Sprattus sprattus ), horse mackerel Trachurus mediterraneus Atlantic trachurus ) living have been evaluated comparing three SPMs: Catch Maximum Sustainable Yields (CMSY), Stochastic surplus model Continuous Time (SPiCT), Abundance (AMSY). different approaches present some variations; however, they generally agree on describing all close reference values for both biomass fishing mortality recent year. For sprat, AMSY results robust this species’ survey data allow depicting clearer picture history stock. Indeed, species, CMSY or SPiCT preferred models, since these species landings not negligible. Notwithstanding, age-structured assessments remain powerful approach evaluating resources, but SPMs proved be tool data-limited context.
