ABSTRACT
The complex gut microbiome is a malleable microbial community that can undergo remodeling in response to many factors, including the environment and properties. Enterococcus has emerged as one of predominant commensal bacterial plays fundamental role host physiology health major economic agricultural insect, Bombyx mori. Although extensive research on structure diversity been carried out, how these consortia are established multifarious niches within not well characterized date. Here, an species was stably associated with its host, model organism B. mori , identified larval gut. GFP–tagged E. faecalis LX10 constructed bacterium track colonization mechanism intestine . results revealed minimum optimum were obtained by feeding at doses 10 5 CFU/silkworm 7 CFU/silkworm, respectively, confirmed bioassays fluorescence-activated cell sorting analyses (FACS). Furthermore, comprehensive genome-wide exploration signal sequences provided insight into relevant properties LX10. grew under alkaline conditions reduced intestinal pH through lactic acid production. Additionally, genomic features responsible for fermentation characterized. We further expressed purified bacteriocin found it particularly effective against other bacteria, casselifavus mundtii Serratia marcescens Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Escherichia coli. In addition, successful led drastically increased expression all adhesion genes ( znuA lepB hssA adhE EbpA Lap ), defense cspp, tagF esp regulation gene BfmRS secretion prkC ) immune evasion patA patB while iron acquisition ddpD metN largely unchanged or decreased. This work establishes unprecedented conceptual understanding –gut microbiota interactions ecological context. Moreover, shed light molecular mechanisms proliferation tract this insect.
