ABSTRACT
Introduction Spinal cord injury (SCI) can cause paralysis, for which effective therapeutic strategies have not been developed yet. The only accepted strategy patients is rehabilitation (RB), although this does allow complete recovery of lost functions, makes it necessary to combine with such as plasma-synthesized polypyrrole/iodine (PPy/I), a biopolymer different physicochemical properties than PPy synthesized by conventional methods. After SCI in rats, PPy/I promotes functional recovery. Therefore, the purpose study was increase beneficial effects both and identify genes activate when applied alone or combination mixed scheme RB swimming enriched environment (SW/EE) rats SCI. Methods Microarray analysis performed mechanisms action underlying PPy/I+SW/EE on motor function evaluated BBB scale. Results showed robust upregulation related developmental process, biogenesis, synapse, synaptic vesicle trafficking. In addition, increased expression proliferation, cell development, morphogenesis, differentiation, neurogenesis, neuron synapse formation processes. Immunofluorescence β-III tubulin all groups, decreased caspase-3 group GFAP ( p < 0.05). Better preservation nerve tissue observed PPy/SW/EE groups scale, control scored 1.72 ± 0.41, animals treatment 4.23 0.33, those 9.13 0.43 1 month after follow-up. Conclusion Thus, could represent alternative
