ABSTRACT
Introduction Previous studies have reported a close relationship between cancer and microbes, particularly gut tumor microbiota; however, the presence of microbiome in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) its role prognosis NPC remain unclear. Methods We collected 64 samples including tissues from 50 patients with (NPC group) 14 chronic nasopharyngitis (control receiver operating characteristics we applied 16S ribosome RNA gene sequencing all to assess profiles immunohistochemistry detect NPC. Results Patients control group harbored higher species diversity than those group; beta was more distinct group. In total, three genera statistically significant differences two groups were identified. The area under (ROC) curve (AUC) calculated using relative abundance these genera, value 0.842 achieved. Furthermore, Turicibacter confirmed as potentially independent prognostic factor for patients, progression-free survival (PFS) markedly prolonged low compared high this genus (cutoff: 0.0046, hazard ratio: 5.10, 95% confidence interval: 2.04–12.77, p = 0.004). Conclusions present study provided strong evidence correlation NPC; may be considered biomarker early diagnosis. served independently indicator patients.
