Analysis and discussion on the pharmaceutical centralized procurement implementation — a case study of a large provincial hospital in China

Unaffordable medical treatment and inflated drug prices have become a challenging issue for lawmakers worldwide. To reduce the financial burden standardize pharmaceutical market, Chinese government has issued several detailed regulations, including measures of recruitment procurement in one volume purchasing to not only ensure high quality approved drugs but also lower cost production sell procedure. In this work, thorough overview enforcement these we attempted critically analyze data our hospital’s centralized from 2019 2022. We identified some concerns, such as difficulty determining “quantity” procurement, out-of-stock collectively procured drugs, managing preallocation associated funds, incomplete systems, etc. Therefore, it is essential promote multidimensional strategy, combination insurance reform policies, strict controlling forecast quantity stable supply, improvement relevant policies retaining surplus secureness system platform, available reference guidance subsequent drugs.
