ABSTRACT
Free-Electron Lasers are a rapidly growing field for advanced science and applications, worldwide facilities intense generation, characterization usage becoming increasingly popular due to their peculiarities, including extremely bright, coherent, wide band tunable ultra-short pulses which not achievable with other techniques up now. In this review we give thorough survey of the latest advances in Laser-based generation detection methodologies then present main characteristics future THz/IR source, named TerRa@BriXSinO, based on superconducting linear accelerator. The foreseen source is strongly monochromatic, bandwidth 1% or smaller, highly coherent both transversally longitudinally, extreme versatility high frequency tunability. After introducing most recent novel FEL-assisted scientific investigations, fundamental explorations into complex systems time-dependent interactions material dynamics, our vision potential use TerRa facility analyze some possible ranging from non-linear physics under conditions polarization sensitive imaging metamaterial-based sensing.
