Cultivating a culture of inclusivity in heliophysics

ABSTRACT
A large number of heliophysicists from across career levels, institution types, and job titles came together to support a poster at Heliophysics 2050 the position papers for 2024 decadal survey titled “Cultivating Culture Inclusivity in Heliophysics,” “The Importance Policies: It’s not just pipeline problem,” “Mentorship within Heliophysics.” While writing these papers, people who privately shared disturbing stories experiences bullying harassment was shocking. The expressed how burned out they were staggering. spoke about considered leaving field their family’s health astounding. And as much good there is our community, it still toxic environment many. If we fail do something now, will continue suffer. acknowledging ongoing growth that individuals must work toward, call on colleagues join us working organizational, group, personal levels toward truly inclusive culture, wellbeing success field. This includes policies, processes, commitments promote: accountability bad actors; financial security through removing constant anxiety funding; prioritization mental community deadlines last-minute requests; collaborative culture rather than hyper-competitive one; where can thrive whole persons have give up healthy or well-rounded life succeed.
