Exploring perceived restoration, landscape perception, and place attachment in historical districts: insights from diverse visitors

ABSTRACT
Improving the quality of built environment to enhance people’s mental health is gaining traction across various fields, precipitating valuable actions on wave “Healthy China 2030” initiative. While ample studies have confirmed benefits interaction with natural or green spaces, investigation into restorative potential in urban settings remains notably underexplored. In this study, we focused historical districts, conducting a questionnaire survey evaluate experiences individuals visiting these sites. We used Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) analyze conceptual model that encompasses landscape perception, place attachment, and perceived restoration, specific focus detecting mediating role attachment moderating influence visitor groups. The results showed perception significantly influenced which contained indirect effect pathway through dependence identity, as well potent direct impact perception. Moreover, employing multi-group analysis (MGA), discerned different groups partially moderate relationship between restoration.
