Real-life functioning in women with schizophrenia living in residential facilities: Gender-based comparison

ABSTRACT
Despite many patients with schizophrenia being able to achieve good functional outcomes, the number of poor outcome estimates at over 25 percent. One wider constructs, reflecting outcomes in schizophrenia, is real-life functioning, whose key domains include ability live relatively autonomously, productive activity and social interaction. Negative symptoms are seen among independent predictors functioning. As most researchers agree that a disease gender differences terms both clinical goal our observational study was examine functioning women living residential care facilities, relationship between daily negative symptoms.Using Standardized Protocol Clinical Interview observation for 1 or more weeks, we examined 46 females psychiatric facilities compared them 54 males same facilities. In pilot 21 subjects (13 8 males), were evaluated by Russian version Brief Symptom Scale (BNSS).To results, remained active took initiative their physical care, vocational activities, involvement cultural events, maintained friendly relationships other inmates. We have identified group inmates, which prevailed, less pronounced higher level who did not need institutions.Limitations institutions discussed.
