Videoconferencing psychotherapy from a psychodynamic point of view. A qualitative analysis

ABSTRACT
There is a growing interest in delivering videoconferencing psychotherapy (VCP) due to the enormous impact of COVID-19 pandemic on our lives since beginning severe restrictions worldwide March 2020. Scientific literature has provided interesting results about transition remote sessions and its implications, considering different orientations. Less known whether how VCP affects psychodynamic psychotherapeutic approaches reports work with complex mental health problems such as personality disorders are still scarce. The aim study was examine experiences psychotherapists, mainly Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP), delivery during first wave pandemic. Four hundred seventy-nine licensed psychotherapists completed an online survey peak Survey data were analyzed using qualitative analysis. Results presented discussed concerning advantages disadvantages regarding access psychotherapy, specificity video setting, bodily aspects, quality therapeutic relationship, process including technical aspects therapist’s experience. Furthermore, we statements transference countertransference reactions differentiating between high-level borderline neurotic patients low-level patients. Our support importance identify who potentially benefit from VCP. Further research more prospective randomized controlled trials needed investigate implications findings.
