ABSTRACT
The therapeutic relationship continues to be one of the most important factors in outcomes. Given place emotion definition relationship, as well demonstrated positive impact that emotional expression has on process and outcome, it stands reason studying exchange between therapist client further would warranted. This study used a validated observational coding system--the Specific Affect Coding System (SPAFF) theoretical mathematical model analyze behaviors which make up relationship. Specifically, researchers codify relationship-building an expert his over course six sessions. Dynamical systems modeling was also employed create "phase space portraits" depicting relational dynamics master sessions.Statistical analysis compare SPAFF codes parameters client. showed stability affect sessions while client's appeared more flexible time, though remained stable across Finally, phase portraits depicted evolution affective matured. The clinician's ability stay emotionally relatively (relative client) noteworthy. It formed basis for base from she could explore alternative methods relate others had allowed dictate her actions, is keeping with previous research role facilitation within influence these These results provide valuable foundation future key component psychotherapy.
