Depression mediates the association between health literacy and health-related quality of life after myocardial infarction

ABSTRACT
Introduction So far, health literacy (HL) and its related factors in patients with acute myocardial infarction received little attention. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate associations between different dimensions HL disease-specific health-related quality life (HRQOL), that may affect these relations after (AMI). Methods All survivors AMI June 2020 September 2021, from Myocardial Infarction Registry Augsburg (n=882) a postal questionnaire on [Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLQ)], HRQOL (MacNew Heart Disease questionnaire) depression (Patient Health Questionnaire). From 592 respondents, 546 could be included analysis. Multivariable linear regression models were performed nine subscales HLQ total score three MacNew questionnaire. A mediation analysis estimate direct indirect effects taking into account mediating effect depression. Results In sample (72.5% male, mean age 68.5 ± 12.2 years), poor education showed significantly lower scores. Significant found, which remained significant adjustment for sociodemographic variables few exceptions.
