ABSTRACT
In biological dosimetry, dose-response curves are essential for reliable retrospective dose estimation of individual exposure in case a radiation accident. Therefore, blood samples irradiated vitro and evaluated based on the applied assay. Accurate physical dosimetry irradiation performance is critical part experimental procedure influenced by setup, especially when X-ray cabinets used. The aim this study was to investigate variations pitfalls associated with setups used establish calibration cabinets. study, performed an source (195 kV, 10 mA, 0.5 mm Cu filter, rate 0.52 Gy/min, 1 st 2 nd half-value layer = 1.01 1.76 Cu, respectively, average energy 86.9 keV). Blood collection tubes were Gy vertical or horizontal orientation center beam area without usage additional fan heater. To evaluate influence setups, measurements using thermoluminescence dosimeters, electron paramagnetic resonance ionization chamber as well effects, quantified dicentric chromosomes micronuclei, compared. This revealed that sample (vertical vs. horizontal) had significant effect variation −41% up +49% contributed gradient 870 mGy inside due size differences distance focal point tube. number micronuclei differed ~30% between both orientations. An heater no consistent impact. dosimetric monitoring mandatory prior establishment dosimetry. Careful consideration setup collaboration physicists required ensure traceability reproducibility conditions, correlate aberrations correctly avoid systematical bias influencing frame
