Prospective association of eHealth literacy and health literacy with physical activity among Chinese college students: a multiple mediation analysis

ABSTRACT
Background The COVID-19 pandemic has decreased physical activity (PA) while increasing demand for electronic health resources. eHealth literacy (EHL) is expected to aid use and promotion. EHL was raised on the grounds of (HL). This study explored associations among EHL, HL, PA in Chinese college students identified mediating mechanisms EHL/HL-PA relationship. Methods An integrated social-cognitive model proposed. A total 947 (52.8% women, age = 19.87 ± 1.68 years) completed three-wave data collection. Path analysis performed. Results adequate good-to-fit indicated. Perceived (PEHL) significantly associated with perceived HL (PHL) performance (HLP); PHL negatively related HLP; PEHL self-efficacy (SE) social support (SS); had a significant effect SS but not SE; HLP affected SE positively predicted intention (INT), which then PA. mediated PEHL/PHL-INT links; PEHL-INT link; INT jointly PEHL/PHL/HLP-PA; PEHL-PA. Conclusion Relationships were multiple identified. Differential roles links suggest new inform EHL/HL intervention development.
