Factors influencing length of stay and costs in inpatient cases of human brucellosis as the primary diagnosis over a decade in Beijing, China

ABSTRACT
In the year 2021, human brucellosis ranked fifth in terms of number cases among all statutorily notifiable infectious diseases China, thus remaining a significant concern for public health. This study aims to provide insights into financial burden by examining hospital stays and associated costs affected individuals. this retrospective study, we gathered updated data from 467 inpatient primarily diagnosed with at eight major tertiary hospitals Beijing, spanning 2013 2023. To comprehensively explore economic impact on individuals, not only analyzed duration total but also examined various charge types, including drug, lab test, medical imaging, treatment, surgical procedures, supplies consumables, bed care, nursing services, other services costs. Statistical analysis was employed compare differences gender, age, ethnicity, type health insurance, condition admission, comorbidity index, performance surgery, site infection. Both length stay cost exhibited variations infection groups. Utilization categories demonstrated between patients who underwent surgery those did not, as well across different sites. Furthermore, multiple linear regression revealed that Elixhauser site, influenced both cost. addition, age insurance were By delving utilization categories, have addressed gap literature. Our findings valuable optimizing allocation management resources based influencing factors identified study.
