ABSTRACT
There is a growing trend toward the use of renewable sources to produce clean energy and mitigate effects climate change. Second-generation lignocellulose biomasses, such as agro-residues, comprise potential source byproduct agriculture. Ecuador has optimal conditions that allow for cultivation different types crops. This makes agriculture relevant economic activity in country; however, residues obtained from have not been investigated establishment bioenergy industry. study evaluated three varieties sugarcane bagasse, named PR 980, CC 85-92, CB 40-59, production Ecuadorian Andes. The bagasse was quantified by means weighing, then via calorimetry thermogravimetric analysis well proximal elemental analysis. results showed these materials met criteria direct combustion, exhibiting both low nitrogen content 0.30 ± 0.12% ash values 6.20 1.20%. Among analyzed varieties, 40-69 stood out most suitable power generation within cogeneration system; this attributed its superior dry calorific value 17.37 1.45 MJ kg−1, greater presence volatile materials, negligible content. Variety (157.91 t ha−1) reported highest biomass (56.32 ha−1). Analysis SCB structure concluded did differ significantly their contents lignin, hemicellulose, cellulose, which essential implementing an industrial process bioethanol production.
