ABSTRACT
Engineering techniques used to evaluate strain-stress fields, materials’ mechanical properties, and load transfer mechanisms, among others, are useful tools in the study of biomechanical applications. These engineering tools, as experimental numerical ones, were imported biomechanics, particular dental a few decades ago. Several have been like photoelasticity, ESPI (Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry), strain gages, other kinds transducers. However, these some limitations. For instance, photoelasticity give overall field pattern strain, showing stress-strain concentration points. methods cannot an accurate measurement at all On contrary, gages can be perform local measurements. they use electrical resistances, their is limited vivo Optical fiber sensors already dentistry, for diagnostic therapeutic purposes, biomechanics studies. Lasers also clinical dentistry decades. Other optical technologies, coherence tomography (OCT), became suitable practice nowadays it perhaps one that has had more development dentristry, along with lasers.
