ABSTRACT
The competition between various carbohydrates in the binding to Concanavalin A (Con A) can be exploited gravimetric microsensors that detect changes mass or viscoelasticity as a function of glucose concentration. Such sensors are based on immobilisation Con ligand specific element, and successful application requires property is retained. This paper presents simplified procedure quartz surface, common material for microsensors. Structural assessment with atomic force microscopy confirmed surface was covered layer macromolecules. shows presence entities sizes, presumably monomers, dimers tetramers among which most dominant structure. Functional using fluorescent labelled dextran (FITC Alexa 488) suggests coverage ranging from 1.8 × 1011 2.1 1012 immobilised molecules per cm2. assay responsive over concentration range 0–40 mM, but became gradually saturated above 20 mM. Hence, able bind dextran, displaced by dependent manner, thus triggering change proportional MW dextran.
