ABSTRACT
Landslides can be triggered by intense or prolonged rainfall. Rain gauge measurements are commonly used to predict landslides even if satellite rainfall estimates available. Recent research focuses on the comparison of and measurements. The rain data from Italian network (collected in system database “Verifica Rischio Frana”, VRF) compared with National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) products. For purpose, we couple point at individual grid cells, evaluating correlation between different morpho-climatological conditions. We then analyze statistical distributions both types events derived them. Results show that underestimates ground data, largest differences mountainous areas. Power-law models, more appropriate correlate data. satellite-based products exhibit them differ. In conclusion, cannot directly requiring local investigation account for specific settings. suggest forecasting landslides, only performing a scaling
