ABSTRACT
Improvements in internal combustion engine efficiency can be achieved with proper thermal management. In this work, a simulation tool for the preliminary analysis of cooling control is developed and model-based controller, which enforces coolant flow rate by means an electrically driven pump presented. The controller optimizes under each operating condition to guarantee that temperatures boiling levels are kept inside prescribed constraints, guarantees efficient safe operation. methodology validated at experimental test rig. Several strategies analyzed during standard homologation cycle comparison proposed adoption belt-driven provided. results show that, according strategy requirements, fuel consumption reduction up about 8% respect traditional system over whole driving cycle. This proves useful appropriately range possible conditions.
