ABSTRACT
As a result of aging populations globally, growing number older adults prefer to age in place; therefore, it is essential study the spatial adaptability house. This aimed explore relationship between efficiency daily activities and layout home kitchens elderly population, assess moderating role cognitive function. Twenty-one participants completed experiment, including non-cognitively impaired (n = 12) cognitively groups 9). Their kitchen space was partitioned plan elevation based on syntax theory. They were required complete three tasks (i.e., an easy task, medium difficult task) their respective kitchens. The different tasks’ completion corresponding attributes (integration, mean depth) examined. results showed significant association homebound activity efficiency. In addition, positive effect ability found moderate (p < 0.05), its appeared be stronger under challenging 0.01). this may help provide basis for future design optimization aging-friendly residential spaces.
