ABSTRACT
This paper deepens the empirical analysis of health effects smoking by using average treatment effect on treated (ATET) and regression discontinuity design (RDD) to estimate impact duration health. The estimates cigarette health, that is, exogenous increase in probability smoking-related ill when individuals smoke up a certain number years. Using National Income Dynamic survey (NIDS), study finds reporting poor and/or suffering diseases increases with years smoking. magnitude is higher rather than self-assessed considered but varies across time, socioeconomic status, different outcomes. are robust under several parametric non-parametric models. RDD, also evidence discrete jump 30 results suggest policies designed reduce current levels may have desirable can create both future public benefits.
