Embracing First-Person Perspectives in Soma-Based Design

ABSTRACT
A set of prominent designers embarked on a research journey to explore aesthetics in movement-based design. Here we unpack one the design sensitivities unique our practice: strong first person perspective—where movements, somatics and aesthetic sensibilities designer, researcher user are at forefront. We present an annotated portfolio exemplars brief introduction some methods theory use, together substantiating explaining first-person perspective. At same time, show how this felt dimension, despite its subjective nature, is what provides rigor structure research. Our aim assist researchers soma-based wanting consider multiple facets when designing for movement. The applications span large field designs, including slow introspective, contemplative interactions, arts, dance, health applications, games, work many others.
