ABSTRACT
Many theories of motivation suggest that and academic achievement reinforce each other over time, yet few longitudinal studies have examined behavioral pathways may mediate interplay from to achievement. Moreover, empirical so far mostly focused on Western countries. In this study, we first whether students' value education, as a measure motivation, is reciprocally related (class rank self-rated performance) in sample junior high schoolers an East-Asian country (N = 3445, Korean Youth Panel Study). We tested reciprocity using different statistical models. Second, investigated the relation between was mediated by time invested learning. Reciprocal effects education were found classic cross-lagged panel models, but only unilateral (from education) when used random-intercept random-curve Adding investment variable, reciprocal effect investment, with random intercept model. conclusion, are more elusive than previous research suggested; further should be dedicated scrutinizing its existence various
