ABSTRACT
The current state of the art single-photon detectors operating in mid-infrared wavelength range is reported this review. These devices are essential for a wide applications, such as quantum communications, sensing, and metrology, which require with high detection efficiency, low dark count rates, dead times. technological challenge moving from well-performing commercially available near-infrared to discussed. Different approaches explored, spanning stoichiometric or geometric engineering large variety materials infrared applications exploitation alternative novel implementation proper schemes. three most promising solutions described detail: superconductive nanowires, avalanche photodiodes, photovoltaic detectors.
