ABSTRACT
Friction stir welding (FSW) of polymeric materials has recently attracted significant attention. Herein, we present the effect tool pin profile on FSW high-density polyethylene (HDPE) joints through joint experimental analysis and thermomechanical simulations. For effects properties HDPE joints, frustum (FPT), cubic (CPT), triangular (TPT) shapes were selected in this study. This research investigated heat generation parts different tools as well flux (internal surface). The results revealed that pins with more edges (cubic (96 °C) (94 °C)) was greater than a smooth shape (frustum (91 °C)). higher caused surface from to be for other joints. Due HDPE, material velocity stirring zone, where TPT, CPT, FPT 0.41 m/s, 0.42 0.4 respectively. simulation show sharp-edged pins, such cubic, lead over-stirring action internal voids formed along line. Furthermore, indicated size stirred zones (SZs) FPT, CPT samples 17 mm2, 19 21 respectively, which is around three times corresponding values HAZ.
