Assessment of Tuscany Landscape Structure According to the Regional Landscape Plan Partition

The landscape is considered a strategic asset by the Tuscan regional government, also for its economic role, meaning that specific Landscape Plan has been developed, dividing region into 20 Units and representing main planning instrument at level. Following aims of guidelines European Convention, it necessary to develop an adequate assessment landscape, evaluating typologies their characteristics. aim this research carry out diversity in Tuscany based on study areas, analyzing land uses mosaic structures through application metrics: number uses, mean patch size (MPS), Hill’s number, edge density (ED), (PD), use (LUD). results highlight correlation between (forest, agricultural, mixed, periurban) complexity structure, especially relation MPS PD, while combination PD LUD calculated basis hexagonal grid allows obtaining maps. Despite phenomena reforestation urban sprawl recent decades, still preserves different characterized good level complexity. This particularly evident mixed landscapes, agricultural landscapes have larger variability because historical organization forms. methodology applied provided large amount data about structure proved be effective assessing creating database can represent baseline future monitoring.
